How to Care for Your Washing Machine

How to Care for Your Washing Machine

A washing machine is one of the most extensively used appliances in any home. These machines tackle all kinds of fabric – from regular wear like tops, pants and t-shirts to heavier clothes like bed sheets, curtains and towels. That is why it annoys us a lot when something happens to them.

Let me share some essential care tips to help you keep your washing machine in top shape. These tips are based on what our experts advise our customers. We specialise in repairing washing machines of a variety of brands. Get in touch with us on 9454 6781.

#1. Deep Cleaning

We all expect our washing machines to give us 100% all the time. However, just like any other machine, they require maintenance. They all start losing efficiency after some time.  You will begin to notice that your clothes are not coming out as clean as they used to. The major reason for this is scaling which occurs when there are micro-residuals present in water. To get rid of scaling, you will need to use a strong machine cleaner which will not damage the plastic or metal parts of the machine. Buy a well-known brand of machine cleaner to avoid any surprises.

#2. Rubber Gasket Cleaning

This is one of the most important parts of your washing machine and it is the one that suffers wear and tear. This rubber gasket is there to wrap the edges of your washer dryer and also protects the clothes from damaging. Some micro dust particles enter the gasket everytime you open the machine. Detergent and softeners also leave some residue in this area. We recommend you clean the rubber gasket using a damp cloth. Doing it once a week would be ideal.

#3. Protect from Spillage

Detergent spillage is also gathered in washing machines. Even if you use top of the line detergents and softeners, chances are they will leave some residue that will get sticky over time and start to smell bad. Use a mild dishwashing cleaner to wipe this sticky residue. Clean the inside of the drum using a damp cloth because it also builds detergent, dirt and lint residue over time. We can help you with cleaning the washing machine from this residue. Have a look at our services.

#4. Keep the Door Open

We strongly suggest you always keep the door of your washing machine open after use. This is a huge blunder a lot of people make when using the washing machine. There is a common misconception that leaving the door open will build dust and dirt inside the machine. While some dirt can enter by leaving the door open, closing it shut right after use is much more damaging. Leaving the door open for 13 to 30 minutes will remove the moisture and prevent mould and bacteria from building up.

#5. Keep an Eye on the Hoses

Keep checking the hoses for a smooth flow of water inwards and outwards. All washing machines these days have three hoses – two are inlets and one is an outlet. Make sure the connection for the inlets is secure and there are no cracks or leaks. This will also save from any water wastage. Keep checking the condition of your outlet from time to time to make sure that it isn’t blocked.
